This Year's Charity: Canvey Island First Responders

Canvey Island Community First Responders are volunteers who
are trained to respond to emergency calls in their local area through
the 999 system in conjunction with the East of England
Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
Community First Responders are not a substitute for the
Ambulance Service. But, as they are based within the community
in which they either live or work, they are able to attend the
scene of an emergency call in a very short time; often within the first
few minutes and, in the majority of incidents, they will be first on scene.
Community First Responders are able to administer vital, life saving
first aid treatment before the arrival of an Ambulance crew.

Their early intervention further increases the patient’s chance of
survival or may just provide the simple reassurance that the ambulance
crew are on their way. We are not funded by the NHS which requires
an individual responder to utilise their own vehicle with no mileage
allowance for fuel however the East of England Ambulance Service
NHS Trust replaces medical consumables such as oxygen and bandages.
